Complementarianism vs Egalitarianism: Conflict is brewing in the Southern Baptist Convention

In the following 11 minute video, Todd Friel, of Wretched Radio, explains the conflict presently stirring in the SBC. Before the video, you will find a brief definition of each above term.

Friel’s video was posted a month ago. If you do a YouTube search on complementarianism, there are many speakers addressing it, men and women.

Complementarianism is a theological view in Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, that men and women have different but complementary roles and responsibilities in marriage, family life, religious leadership, and elsewhere. The word “complementary” and its cognates are currently used to denote this view.

Egalitarianism (from French égal, meaning ‘equal’), or equalitarianism,[1][2] is a school of thought within political philosophy that prioritizes equality for all people.[3] Egalitarian doctrines are generally characterized by the idea that all human persons are equal in fundamental worth or moral status.[4] According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the term has two distinct definitions in modern English,[5] namely either as a political doctrine that all people should be treated as equals and have the same politicaleconomicsocial and civil rights,[6] or as a social philosophy advocating the removal of economic inequalities among peopleeconomic egalitarianism, or the decentralization of power. Some sources define egalitarianism as the point of view that equality reflects the natural state of humanity.[7][8][9]

In closing I would say that if you are a biblical Christian, that is, one who knows and seeks to abide by God’s word, then you might want to do some further research on this topic.

The apostles gave us an example in the book of Acts about resolving conflicts among believers, see Acts 15, the Jerusalem council. Jesus Christ chose those men to establish His church, they turned to His word for guidance, guidelines….

Pro 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.
Pro 3:6 Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.

STUDY RECOMMENDATIONS:

The egalitarian movement seems to be connected to the women’s movement, which itself, is part of a large movement that is discussed in this blog under the category of Paganism / Neopaganism and One-world Movement. Post 6 is about Feminism: to see that post, see: Categories: Paganism / Neopaganism. The first two posts of that series are foundational to the series; those posts have little narrative and utilize short videos to establish the basis for the series.
