Joyce Meyer; Joel Osteen and other false word-of-faith teachers critiqued

The following narrative accompanied John Henry’s video:

The devilish masters of the word-faith movement. Justin Peters and John MacArthur provide biblical answers.

I was shocked to see how devilish doctrines, new age, and pagan practices are being taught in the church as biblical doctrines by Joel Osteen and his friend Oprah Winfrey, Joyce Meyer, Kenneth Copeland, Jesse Duplantis, Victoria Osteen, Robert Morris, Joseph Prince are also teaching the exact same demonic doctrines.

Video overview: the video opens with Oprah Winfrey praising Joel Osteen and recommending his teaching; then you will see the above teachers telling their audiences that they can speak things into existence.

John MacArthur and Justin Peters appear a couple of times each, to clarify what these false teachers are saying and to contrast their words with biblical teaching.

Also, in the middle of the video, John Henry spliced in a clip of a Ted Talk about ‘The Law of Attraction.’ That secular talk is thereafter compared with Osteen’s words (all the other false teachers were speaking the same words), to show viewers that Osteen was merely inserting a Bible verse, or a comment about Jesus now and then to make his secular teaching appear to be Christian.

John Henry makes very clear, that Osteen is teaching secular worldly theories, philosophies, etc. That professed Christians are being duped, tricked into believing that they are receiving Christian teachings.

Near the end of the video, MacArthur stated that these prosperity and word-of-faith teachers are stumbling blocks; that is, they are obstacles to God’s work in the world.

How they are stumbling blocks:

• Misrepresenting God, Christ, the Holy Spirit and the Bible
• They are teaching heresy and ensuring that their followers remain ignorant of Bible doctrine
• [Ignorance is darkness; God’s word, truth, dispels ignorance. That is why one of the pieces of armor is the study of God’s word]
• One role of the church is to confront evil in the world; teachers of heresy get in the way of that, [especially when they command such huge audiences of people who think they are real Christians]

The true church is known by the following per JM:

• It’s confession of Christ
• It’s submission to scripture
• It’s contrast with the world [prosperity and word-of-faith churches are seeking the same things as worldlings: health, wealth, personal power in the form of healing others, speaking in tongues…]
• It’s cross-centered triumph – as soldiers of the Lord, armored up and standing for His truth [below the video, there is a full definition of the armor of God]

MacArthur noted that the prophet Isaiah would have a problem with these false teachers, consider his words:

Isaiah 6:5  So I said: “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The LORD of hosts.”

Armor of God: John Calvin, in his commentary on Ephesians, clarified that the armor of God is merely God’s appointed means of grace; those are as follows:

• Prayer
• Reading God’s word
• The Lord’s supper
• Fellowship with believers around the word of God, such as Bible studies; prayer meetings
• Baptism

Those things are the spiritual weapons of the Christian. Behind all false teachers are demonic beings influencing them. Calvin makes clear that Satan will crush the believer who doesn’t fight with the above God-given weapons.
