Psalm / Hymn Singalong for personal worship

The purpose of this post is to provide music and singing for leading personal worship. I doubt if I’m the only worshiper who cannot carry a tune, even when I know the lyrics. Herein, the lyrics are below the music video so that readers might sing along with Brian Cochran as he plays his guitar and sings. It is like being in church and singing with the congregation and the pianist. Herein: Psalm 51C, about confessing sin; two hymns to help the worshiper consider the atoning work of Christ; and one hymn to help one consider the covenant God made with Abraham from which His redemptive work flowed

Christian Hymns: Jesus, Thy Blood and Righteousness; The Church’s One Foundation; Guitarist Brian Cochran

This post contains two Christian Hymns from the Trinity Hymnal: Jesus, Thy Blood and Righteousness; and The Church’s One Foundation. Lyrics are below each music video. Singing and guitar by Brian Cochran, who created the videos for his YouTube site. On Sunday, May 28, the pastor of the church I attend used the first hymn as part of our morning worship; the lyrics of this hymn are so wonderful, I was moved to find that version of it on YouTube and post it for others to hear. Lyrics have been posted so that readers might sing along; might use these as part of family worship….

1 Corinthians 9:24 …So run that you may obtain it [the imperishable prize]

This post contains a thoughtful video short on 1 Corinthians 9:24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it.
A race is being run and it is easy to notice the effort each runner is putting into winning. The apostle Paul used that analogy regarding the Christian life. I was greatly convicted as I watched this video, but also inspired….

I’m Stuck in Sexual Sin — Should I Excommunicate Myself? – Ask Pastor John

This post contains 3 videos: the one titled above is second.  I clicked on a 1-minute video from my YouTube notification page yesterday, and was busy doing something and the next two videos that played are posted here in that order. They are all related and relevant to the second video titled above. How so?  The first video is what one is not able to do if he / she is addicted to sexual sin; the third video is an answer to that problem from the pen of C H Spurgeon. It is about how the Lord sanctifies those whom He has drawn to Himself.

Encountering God: Fear and Trembling – R.C. Sproul

This post contains an R C Sproul teaching video that I had used as part of another post. I am posting it by itself because it will likely be missed by those who had no interest in learning about ‘The Nearness,’ a new movement for those who consider themselves, ‘spiritual but not religious.’ Sproul’s message talks about something all church goers have likely experienced but possibly haven’t thought much about or could not define, the experience one has as he enters into the building of the church and leaves behind the secular world and mindset. If you have never had such an experience, then Sproul’s lecture is a must for you to hear. It is part of a 6-part teaching, but stands alone. The series is linked for those who might want to know more. Lecture highlights are set in bullet points before the video.

A Call To Scripture Memory – Susan Heck

I had never heard of Susan Heck until last week when I found a Justin Peters’ interview wherein he interviewed her about the teachings of Beth Moore. I agreed with Susan Hecks critique of Beth Moore; and gathered, from listening to Justin’s interview, that she is a sound teacher of the Bible. When Justin Peters introduced Susan Heck, he noted that during her past 30 years of ministering the Bible to Women, she has memorized the entire New Testament. I was greatly impressed and wanted to hear what she had to say about her process. Hence, this post. In the following video, Susan Heck, answers 5 questions, the last of which is ‘how to’ memorize scripture. 1) Who should memorize scripture? Is it necessary for everyone? 2) Why should we memorize scripture? 12 reasons provided from the Bible 3) What scripture should we memorize? 4) When should we memorize scripture? 5) How do we memorize scripture?

C H Spurgeon’s Morning and Evening Thoughts for May 3rd

This post contains C H Spurgeon’s Morning and Evening thoughts for May 3rd. Spurgeon’s morning verse is, “In the world ye shall have tribulation” — John_16:33; via this verse, he talks about the furnace of affliction that is necessary to conform the believer into the image of Christ. His evening verse is, “A very present help” — Psalm_46:1. His focus is on encouraging believers to appropriate covenant graces to aid in their struggles.

Kenneth Steward Sermon – Troubled Waters

Pastor Stewart’s sermon is on the following text, which he called the most meaningful in the entire Bible regarding practical living of the Christian life; he made the lesson Christ taught His apostles clear for us: Matthew 14:30 But seeing the wind, he became frightened, and when he began to sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” 31 Immediately Jesus reached out with His hand and took hold of him, and *said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 When they got into the boat, the wind stopped. [Sermon highlights are provided]
