The Thoughts Make The Face, by J. R. Miller – Devotional

This 5 minute J. R. Miller devotional is about the impact our thoughts have upon us.

The following points are highlights of Miller’s short devotional:

  • Jesus’ face must have been very beautiful, as it is sin that mars one’s face, and He had no sin
  • One cannot hide his inner life from other people, one’s thoughts are visible on his face in the present, and habitual thought patterns create marks on one’s face: the deep marks of habitual bitterness differ greatly from those of habitual kindness
  • While Christ walked among men on earth, He spent much time conversing with His heavenly Father; His face must have reflected peace, love… from such heavenly converse
  • He never had selfish, impure thoughts; nor was His mind disturbed by anxiety, discontent and the like
  • If beautiful thoughts make a beautiful soul, then His was; if a beautiful soul makes a beautiful face, then His was lovely
  • Sorrow mars some faces, it need not; only when affliction is not accepted in love and faith does it leave marks of disfigurement
  • Sorrow, sweetly endured, transfigures the face giving it new beauty; Jesus was a Man of sorrows, but His sorrow only made His face more radiant
