The Southern Baptist Convention & The Subordination of Scripture – James Lindsay, Ep. 80

James Lindsay on SBC Resolution 9, the narrative from his YouTube site:

In April of 2019, the famously conservative Southern Baptist Convention adopted an infamous resolution, Resolution 9, bringing into the Convention both Critical Race Theory and Intersectionality “as an analytical tool subordinate to Scripture.” This is, at best, a fundamental misunderstanding of Woke Marxism (thus CRT/I), which are explicitly designed to identify anything they are put in subordination to, subvert that thing, and then occupy a position of dominance over it (which they deny they are doing). In this must-listen episode of my subscribers-only podcast, James Lindsay OnlySubs, I go into this facet of Theory and raise important questions about why anyone would think this was a good idea. Join me to hear all about the threat from within to a conservative religious icon. -James Lindsay

The following points are from Lindsay’s 18-minute video:

*Resolution 9 professed to bring in CRT / Intersectionality as an analytical tool subordinate to scripture
*It was passed under shady circumstances: for some magical reason, via debate…, they ran out of time to vote on resolutions 9-13. It was proposed that they vote on them as a block. Those who wanted 10-13 were forced to accept 9…
*That sort of tactic is typical of Marxists
*You should be concerned even if your church is not in the SBC, as your denomination may be a target soon
*To say that CRT will be subordinate to scripture is a “trojan horse;” those of the SBC who proposed this resolution were either naive or complicit with Marxists
*Marxists believe that all domination is a product of social relations and must be ended, therefore it is said that communist utopia is a stateless, classless society – a society wherein there is no dominator
*Domination is a thing they from which they want to liberate us all; that includes the domination of reality
*That is, CRT and intersectionality fundamentally understand domination to be an evil in the world that has to be removed
*What is the opposite of domination? Subordination
*Knowing the above, lets return to resolution 9. CRT/Intersectionality was ushered in under the guise that it would be subordinate to scripture; but it is the nature of these Marxist tools to subordinate any evil system that dominates in society; therefore, its very nature prohibits that it should remain under scripture
*How are these Marxist tools used to achieve domination? By labeling ‘racist’ anything, system, that it wants to overthrow, until that system is subordinated
*So, resolution 9 could be said to have been a trojan horse, as it carried something into the SBC that will not remain subordinate to scripture, but by its very nature, will subordinate scripture
*If those who wrote resolution 9 did not know they were bringing in a trojan horse, or if they were complicit with this Marxist ideology, they need to be removed from offices of leadership
*Resolution 9 wording, which was stated, “subordinate to scripture” should have been stated, “to subordinate scripture”
*Crt/intersectionality and those who brought it in should be ejected if the SBC is to remain a denomination that honors the scripture; otherwise?????
