The Lord’s Prayer – Lead Us Not Into Temptation – Pastor John MacArthur

The following points are HIGHLIGHTS from the 5-minute video of this post:

[Bracketed statements and emboldening are mine]:

THE LORD’S PRAYER, LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION:

*We pray to God as supplier, sovereign, Savior, and security (per the Lord’s prayer)

*He is holy and does not tempt anyone, James 1:13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. [ESV]

*We ask for bread, God says He will provide, as promised

*We ask for forgiveness, He says He will, in Christ; and He will continue to forgive in the John 13 sense, when we forgive others

*Protect us from trials that would turn into temptation 1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

*He will keep you alive, will keep forgiving your sins, as long as you’re forgiving others

*He will never put you in a situation wherein a trial is going to directly lead you into temptation

*When you pray, pray this way: All I ask for myself is life, forgiveness, and holiness

*All the rest, I leave to you so that your name will be hallowed and your kingdom will come

*John 14:13  Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.  Joh 14:14  If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.

*When prayer requests are in line with what He has promised; consistent with Who He is

*James – Jas 4:2  You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask.  Jas 4:3  You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions. Jas 4:4  You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

*Start praying for the Kingdom to come, not for an exit [from your trials?]

*Father, we acknowledge your absolute sovereignty; we acknowledge you’re the source of all that is good; that you are holy (never doing wrong or committing error); we want your name to be hallowed; we want you to advance your kingdom through the gospel, one soul at a time; we want you to keep us alive so we can be useful

*We want you to fill us with such thanksgiving that we will readily forgive all who offend us, that we might put your forgiveness on display

*We want you always to show us a way through a trial so it doesn’t end up as a temptation

If you pray that way, He will do it for His name’s sake.

The following narrative accompanied the above video at YouTube:

Dr. John MacArthur is—far and away—America’s greatest Bible teacher. In 2015, I had a burning desire to understand what the Bible really meant, however, everywhere I searched, all I found was grossly undereducated men who called themselves “preachers” or “pastors” who were chiefly interested in:

1. Making money 2. Gaining popularity 3. Spreading a false gospel

It was quite obvious to me they had very little Biblical knowledge.

MacArthur, on the other hand, has a vast knowledge of the Bible and goes to great pains to explain it so articulately. I can honestly say that he changed the direction of my life. I am forever grateful to find such a wonderful teacher. Therefore, I’ve created this YouTube channel in order to propagate his accurate and thorough Biblical teachings.

I implore you to go directly to his website to learn more about the Word of God: https://www.gty.org/ Here you will find a wealth of information on virtually any subject in God’s Word. You can search by scripture, Books of the Bible, or keywords.

MacArthur is not focused on making money, unlike many false Christian preachers today. You can download his sermons for FREE! Just click on this link to go directly to his sermons.
