Should Christians Practice Yoga? — Doreen Virtue

In the following 7-minute video, Doreen Virtue, former New Age Guru and author of many Occult books, provides truth about yoga and whether it can be ‘Christianized.’

Video Highlights:

  • 1-minute intro by Chad of Good Fight Ministries – interview of Doreen Virtue
  • Doreen said that a common excuse for Christians who practice yoga is that it provides health benefits
  • Doreen authored 70 books on the New Age, including on Yoga, which she channeled; she warned against following any of them, as they will take you to hell
  • She practiced yoga for 20 years at a foremost Yoga studio in the US, she also lectured on yoga there
  • Yoga, a Sanskrit term, means to be ‘yoked’ – practicing yoga yokes you to the Hindu god, Brahman: that is, you bind yourself to a Pagan deity when you practice yoga
  • She described the Sun Salutation pose, three parts of it called warrior 1-3; when you practice this pose, you are reenacting a murder scene which was carried out, per Shiva, by a Hindu demon
  • The Bible calls us to glorify God with our bodies, in such poses, you certainly are not, but are violating the first and second commandments
  • The fish pose, for example, is not of a fish in the sea, it is the Hindu fish god you are mimicking—she plans to make a video that identifies the god worshipped in each yoga pose

  • [She has not yet made that video, but there are many videos on yoga, New Age, Word-of-faith and many other false spiritual movements]
  • People, who do not understand that Jesus is the only way to heaven, call her racist…
  • Christians sound narrow-minded, they are, as the true way to heaven is narrow
  • Another common excuse is that ‘God knows my heart, He knows I’m not worshipping a false god’ —  since He does know your heart, you should fear and obey His word
  • Another excuse, we use scripture when we do yoga…. She gave an example of using an Ouija board plastered with scripture verses, she said it is still a portal for demons that even New Agers avoid, plastering it with Bible verses would not change that
  • Plastering the name, ‘Christian’ in front of a Pagan practice does not make it Christian
  • To do so is to practice polytheism, Jesus died for that sin also
  • [The theological term for that is syncretism: per dictionary dot com: the attempted reconciliation or union of different or opposing principles, practices, or parties, as in philosophy or religion.]
  • You can stretch in ways that are not of yoga
  • [See links below video, under Study Recommendations, for a site with more specifics on how yoga is worship of Hindu gods]

*** The following link is to the video, 7 Reasons I No Longer Practice Yoga. The vlogger was a yoga teacher for his guru, Yogi Bhajan, during the 1970s in Miami, Florida. I listened to the video and it is more specific than Doreen’s video above. He also mentioned friends who started two alternatives to yoga which I made into separate posts following this post.
