Feelings ― A Sermon on 2 Timothy 1:6 | Martyn Lloyd-Jones

In this sermon on 2 Timothy 1:6 titled “Feelings,” Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones deals with the problem of feelings in the Christian life.Everybody wants to be happy. The problem is that no one can make themselves happy. The human is not a master of self and cannot produce feeling. Try as hard as one might, a person cannot generate true emotions. One’s feelings are dependent on factors seemingly outside of one’s control. As a matter of fact, feelings seek to control the person.

Affirmations / Autosuggestions and the Christian Life

This post contains a 10-minute video on autosuggestion, its message is something like the word-faith gospel. I typed out a transcript of the video and critiqued it a paragraph or few at a time. The critiques are biblical. I do not think the video is within the Christian biblical worldview and do not recommend just hearing that and leaving, without reading the critique.

Cults – Martyn Lloyd-Jones

This post contains a sermon by MLJ on Cults. Therein, he continued his series on the phrase from Ephesians 6:11, “wiles of the Devil.” The crux of the sermon is the distinguishing between a cult and the Christian faith. In the process, several other terms are defined in a user-friendly manner: heretic; apostate; and mystic. After MLJTrust’s points, I added some additional material.

Contemplative Prayer – Mysticism – by GoodFight Ministries

The 7-minute video of this post opens by mentioning Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who brought transcendental (TM) meditation to the west, via the influence of the Beach Boys and the Beatles. Pastor Joe Schimmel, who created the video, then moves to the topic of church leaders who are encouraging TM: Rick Warren and Rob Bell, two of many. Then Pastor Joe S. discussed mantras: their unbiblical nature, even if these are words from the Bible. Lastly, true biblical meditation was succinctly explained…. [Even though this video is a decade old, Hindu meditation and Hindu yoga are still a problem in the church, find out how that is so]

Taylor Swift, Pink, Demi Lovato and the Divine Feminine

Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato and P!nk have come out with different songs denigrating – even mocking – those who believe the Bible concerning many of the most vital issues of conscience. We take a look at the esoteric leanings and ultimately the source for the modern feminist movement by the teachings of Helena Blavatsky, Alice Bailey and other theosophical practitioners who have pushed what can be described only as The Divine Feminine. Is Oprah right on Psalm 37:4? – Ask Pastor John

Pastor John Piper explains Oprah’s errors in her beliefs about the meaning of Psalm 37:4 –  Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.  In the process, he explains the biblical meaning of that verse and clarifies Oprah’s errors, agenda, motives…. Oprah’s view is also held by those in favor of ecumenism, the two biggest names in that arena are the Pope and Rick Warren; but many think that unity before doctrine is the right way.
