Nevada’s top five Republican candidates for governor on Wednesday debated on a number of issues impacting Americans, including inflation, abortion rights, illegal immigration, and this week’s school shooting in Texas…. During the hour-long televised debate, the candidates were asked to share their thoughts on the recent shooting at a Texas elementary school…. Heller pointed out that the latest Texas elementary school incident marks the 27th school shooting in the country this year alone while pointing to rising violence in Clark County schools…. The former police officer, who has built much of his campaign around restoring law and order, said: “I also support background checks, not universal, but regular background checks, associated with removing an individual who is prohibited and may or not possess a gun.” Immigration at the southern border was another key issue discussed by the candidates, and the five were asked whether they would send Nevada National Guards members to the border.

Indiana Voters Heading to Polls With Inflation and Border Security Foremost in Their Minds – Epoch Times

SEYMOUR, Ind.—On May 3 voters in a Republican stronghold in southern Indiana said they are more or less fine with local affairs, but when it comes to national matters they are deeply worried. The top two concerns they have are inflation and border security, according to The Epoch Times’ interviews with a dozen voters in the city of Seymour. Seymour sits in Indiana’s 9th Congressional District, which is an open seat that nine Republican candidates are vying for this year. Whoever wins the primary is almost guaranteed to carry the fall general election. Here, most Republican candidates ran on a similar platform, that of border security, energy independence, pro-life, pro-second amendment, and pro-business.

New Jersey Gym Owner Who Defied Lockdown Is Running for Congress – Epoch Times

Ian Smith, the co-owner of Atilis Gym in Bellmawr, said on a website promoting his campaign that he’s “truly excited to have the possibility to serve the people of [New Jersey] with a platform focused on liberty, small government, and America First policies.” Smith will be running in the state’s 3rd Congressional District and challenge two-term Rep. Andy Kim, a Democrat. The 3rd District combines much of Burlington County and portions of the Jersey Shore region in Ocean County. He formally declared his candidacy in Delran on Thursday—pledging to fight a number of government-imposed CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus mandates as a congressman and also limit illegal immigration and government spending.

Maryland’s Firearms Safety Act of 2013, enacted on the theory that restricting legal gun purchases promotes safety, is among the strictest in the nation. …Applicants must complete safety training and be fingerprinted before a gun permit will be issued. The state bans popular weapons such as the AR-15 and similar rifles and limits magazine capacity to 10 rounds. Maryland law also prohibits firearms with features such as flash hiders and folding stocks that the bloc of states argues enhance gun safety. … According to the brief, “the ‘useful in military service’ standard adopted by the Fourth Circuit” not only would “perversely result in eliminating constitutional protection from the very arms the Founders expected law-abiding citizens to bring with them when mustering for militia service … but taken to the limits of its logic, this standard threatens to strip constitutional protection from virtually all firearms.”

DOJ Announces New Rule for Firearm Safety and Storage – Epoch Times

The Department of Justice on Jan. 3 announced a new rule for firearm safety and storage, set to take effect on Feb. 3. The new rule implements the existing Gun Control Act requirement that imposes strict licensing and regulation on the firearms industry, and states that federal firearms licensees (FFLs) that sell firearms to the general public must certify that they have available secure gun storage or safety device. …According to a November Gallup poll, support for stricter gun control across the United States fell by 15 percentage points to 52 percent in the past five years. Meanwhile, 35 percent of American adults believed laws covering the sale of firearms should be kept as they are currently, while 11 percent favored less strict laws.
