House Republicans Outline Their Antitrust Agenda for Tech Giants: Epoch Times

Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) praised the passage of the bills. “By reining in anti-competitive abuses, our legislation ensures there is a space for opportunity and innovation to thrive online,” Nadler said. But Jordan said he does not believe the anti-trust legislation will bring benefit to Americans or protect free speech. He said the bills advanced by the Judiciary Committee do not address tech monopolies and free speech issues, and instead give Congress the power to regulate Big Tech Companies, making the government more powerful. “I think what these bills do, very clearly, is they marry up big government with big tech, and I think it’s going to make the situation worse,” Jordan told Fox News last month.

Biden Calls for End to Tax Breaks for Oil Companies as Gas Prices Continue to Rise: Epoch Times

…Biden’s remarks come as many economists have been raising the alarm about inflationary pressures and as gas prices have surged across the nation to levels not seen since 2014. As of July 5, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline has risen to $3.22, a seven-year high, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. …Since taking office, Biden has canceled permits for the Keystone XL pipeline and paused leases for new oil and gas drilling on federal lands, while vowing to end fossil fuel subsidies and to lower U.S. greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent by 2030. …“As millions of Americans travel this holiday weekend, they are feeling the cost of Biden’s policies at the pump,” Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel wrote in a July 3 Twitter post. “Gas prices are at their highest level in 7 years.”

The Liberal Supreme Court – Epoch Times

SCOTUS Blog tells us that during this term the court’s most liberal justice, Sonya Sotomayor, was in the majority 70 percent of the time. But that includes cases interpreting federal statutes, where conservatives won some victories. These included Brnovich v. Democratic National Committee (pdf), upholding Arizona’s election integrity law, and Pakdel v. San Francisco (pdf), helping landowners sue for compensation when government seizes their land. …When “progressives” dominated the Supreme Court, they engaged in what the late Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynahan (D-N.Y.) labeled “defining deviancy down.” Later Supreme Court majorities have continued, rather than reversed, the trend. For example, last term in Bostock v. Clayton County (pdf) the justices ruled that the category of “sex” in the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which was intended to mean men and women, also extended to persons displaying homosexual and transgender behavior. This massively extended the scope of the law, and reduced the right of free association—all without a congressional vote. …In Conclusion …The current court is not conservative. As this term’s constitutional cases show, the court applies, and sometimes extends, the anti-constitutional jurisprudence developed during its most liberal era.

What Do We Do About The Homeless?

Homelessness is one of the most vexing public policy problems we face. If you live in a big city, especially on the West Coast, you literally face it every day. And every day, it seems to get worse. Why? And what can we do about it? Christopher Rufo, Senior Fellow at the Manhattan Institute, has answers. [5 1/2 minute video; video script; useful links included]

New West Virginia Law Eliminates Sales Taxes on Guns and Ammo: ‘Huge Economic Boost’ – Epoch Times

A new law that went into effect recently in West Virginia eliminates the sales tax on all small firearms and ammunition, meaning that customers can purchase most handguns, shotguns, and rifles without any sales tax. The law, which went into effect on July 1, was enacted after the passage of House Bill 2499 earlier this year. The bill is designed to promote business and economic growth. “If you are going to buy that $2,000 rifle, it’s going to be $120 cheaper here in West Virginia than compared to our neighboring states,” said Delegate Gary Howell, a Republican, according to local news outlet WOWK-TV.

On a Collision Course With National Disaster – Epoch Times Commentary

The administration is creating total societal chaos, fomenting disorder, and undermining the rule of law at every turn. As the first duty of government is to protect and defend its citizens, we might be alarmed to consider that the administration is engaged in a multipronged strategy to do the opposite. It is shrinking our military, which defends against foreign threats. It is at war with law enforcement, which ensures domestic tranquility, and it is destroying our southern border. It is systematically destroying our liberty and prosperity. …While our Democrat-controlled cities are descending into craven crime centers, much of the Democratic Party is doubling down on the police-bashing-and-defunding policies that created this anarchy….

What the New York Election Fiasco Tells Us About Voter Fraud: Epoch Times Commentary

Nothing underscores this more dramatically than the mega-fiasco surrounding the New York City Democratic mayoral primary. As the world knows now, some 135,000 non-existent votes were somehow magically injected into the system. …The electoral system of the United States of America is one big mess. The system is full of holes in practically every state—and you can probably remove the “practically.” Elections across the country have become a target for mass profiteering with voting machines and have been wide-open to obvious fraud via mail-in ballots (that even The New York Times not so long ago abjured).

Why the Ruling Class Makes 2020 Election Skeptics Potential Domestic Terrorists – Epoch Times

If you still have questions about the integrity of the 2020 presidential election, you are not only a bigot, but you might be a domestic terrorist. President Joe Biden and his Democrat colleagues have made the former clear in their rhetoric, and the like-minded Justice Department in its actions; Biden’s national security and intelligence apparatus has made the latter clear in its strategy to counter domestic terror. “Newer sociopolitical developments–such as narratives of fraud in the recent general election,” reads the strategy, “… will almost certainly spur some DVEs [domestic violent extremists] to try to engage in violence this year,” excerpting from the intelligence community’s March 2021 threat assessment.

As Chicago Murders Rise, Battles Over Police Reform Laws Intensify: Epoch Times

Hours after Chicago’s Puerto Rico Day parade on June 19, a Puerto Rican driver and passenger were dragged from their car by a mob after a minor traffic accident and shot execution-style. The spark from the gunfire can be plainly seen in a video before the offenders run off. The slaying resembles a lynching that might occur in a lawless, poor country but not in the U.S.’s third-largest city. The growing violence has spilled over into Chicago’s downtown “Loop,” where most commerce is conducted and tourists traditionally visit. On June 19, a Maryland graduate student pursuing a doctoral degree in criminal justice was fatally stabbed to death in broad daylight allegedly by a homeless man who police say is connected with other crimes. The next day, in broad daylight, a woman was shot in the leg in a hotel lobby in the same area.

Arizona State Troopers Release 17 Illegal Aliens After ICE Declines to Take Custody – Epoch Times

…Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey also responded on Twitter with a scathing rebuke of the Biden administration, saying it “needs to get its head out of the sand when it comes to the crisis at our border.” “This administration is asleep at the switch, and their total lack of action is having real consequences here in the state of Arizona,” he said. “I’ve met with our Border Patrol and they need help, and they need the support of the administration.” Ducey called for the National Guard to be deployed to the Arizona border. ICE didn’t respond by press time to an Epoch Times query about why it declined to take the 17 aliens into custody.
