The authors of the article, Alberto Giubilini and Francesca Minerva explain why “after-birth abortion”—the killing of newborn infants—should be permitted…. In their article, they argue that there is a serious philosophical issue when conditions, which exist after birth, are the same as those that exist during the gestational period. If the conditions before birth were to justify an abortion, then “after-birth abortion” would also be justified. In these cases, they contend, “we need to assess facts in order to decide whether the same arguments that apply to killing a human fetus can also be consistently applied to killing a newborn human.” They conclude that “killing a newborn could be ethically permissible in all the circumstances where abortion would be.” Even if newborn infants have the potential to lead an acceptable life, their killing would be justifiable whenever they are a burden on the family and/or society. …The authors’ advocacy for killing weak and vulnerable infants surely could be compared to, and could have been inspired by, the Nazi extermination handbooks of the 1930s that supported the killing of “unworthy” people who were gassed….

Build Back Better ‘Is Dead’: Sen. Joe Manchin – Epoch Times
Manchin linked his opposition to the bill with inflation, which has risen at a breakneck pace despite frantic efforts by the White House and the Federal Reserve to get it under control. In the original draft of the BBB authored by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), the legislation would have cost the U.S. government around $6 trillion. Despite being supported by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), such a massive expenditure had little chance of winning the support even of more left-of-center Democrats. …After weeks of negotiations with the pair, the Biden White House unveiled a $1.85 trillion draft of the bill. Sinema remained mum on the updated draft, citing her opposition to “[negotiating] through the press.” Manchin, far more vocal than Sinema, remained skeptical of the bill until December, when he announced that he would not vote for it.
75 Percent of Americans Give Negative Assessment of Economy – Epoch Times
A new poll by ABC News and Ipsos indicates that 75 percent of Americans have a negative assessment of the economy, as the nation struggles with ongoing supply chain disruptions, labor shortages, inflation, and an uncertain future for the stock market. The poll, which asked respondents to “describe the state of the nation’s economy these days,” was generally greeted with less-than-enthusiastic responses. Among those who responded, 28 percent said “poor” and 47 percent said “not so good,” while 23 percent said “good” and only 1 percent said “excellent.”
Cartels Have Operational Control of US Border, Are ‘Terrorizing’ the US, Says Rep. Chip Roy – Epoch Times
Mexican cartels are making billions of dollars from drug trafficking, human smuggling, and exploiting the U.S. border, said Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas). Border Patrol agents apprehended more than 1.3 million illegal immigrants crossing into Texas from Mexico in 2021. Hundreds of thousands more weren’t captured. Seizures of the deadly synthetic opioid, fentanyl, have sharply increased, as have overdose deaths in the United States. …“China is moving it through Mexico, cartels are making money, China is getting empowered, America’s getting hammered—all because this administration refuses to do its job of securing the border.” …“How is the most powerful nation in the history of the world allowing our borders to be operationally controlled by cartels, while Democrats pat themselves on the back for compassion, using asylum as an excuse for wide open borders that do nothing good for the American people?”
25 States Urge Supreme Court to Strike Down Maryland’s Far-Reaching Gun Ban – Epoch Times
Maryland’s Firearms Safety Act of 2013, enacted on the theory that restricting legal gun purchases promotes safety, is among the strictest in the nation. …Applicants must complete safety training and be fingerprinted before a gun permit will be issued. The state bans popular weapons such as the AR-15 and similar rifles and limits magazine capacity to 10 rounds. Maryland law also prohibits firearms with features such as flash hiders and folding stocks that the bloc of states argues enhance gun safety. … According to the brief, “the ‘useful in military service’ standard adopted by the Fourth Circuit” not only would “perversely result in eliminating constitutional protection from the very arms the Founders expected law-abiding citizens to bring with them when mustering for militia service … but taken to the limits of its logic, this standard threatens to strip constitutional protection from virtually all firearms.”

UN Giving ‘Humanitarian Cash’ to Migrants Heading to US Border – Epoch Times
A United Nations “cash-based interventions” program provides migrants heading to the U.S. border with debit cards, help with housing, transport, and medical assistance. The assistance is accessible in cities on the well-traveled routes from Latin America through Mexico. …Migrants there are issued debit cards that reload each month, according to Todd Bensman, who is reporting from the city of Tapachula at Mexico’s southern border with Guatemala. Bensman is the senior national security fellow at the Center for Immigration Studies. …In Tapachula on Jan. 14, a Haitian man was waiting for his 3,600 pesos owed (about $180), Bensman said. A Honduran woman said her cash card provided 2,500 pesos a month for four people. …Rep. Lance Gooden (R-Texas) recently introduced a bill to put a stop to U.S. payments to the UNHCR, the UN International Organization for Migration, and the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East. “U.S. taxpayers should not be subsidizing a mass invasion of our country by an endless stream of unknown and unvetted migrants,” Gooden wrote in a statement at the time.
Fact-Checkers Are Used to Confuse the Public: Sharyl Attkisson – Epoch Times
Five-time Emmy award-winning journalist Sharyl Attkisson said she has seen an increased effort to manipulate the public to appreciate censorship and disapprove of journalism. One of the strategies that has been employed is the use of third-party fact-checkers, she said. “Nearly every mode of information has been co-opted, if it can be co-opted by some group, [and] fact-checkers are no different,” Attkisson told EpochTV’s “American Thought Leaders… Because Attkisson was curious about this idea of curating news, she researched the topic of misinformation, which led her to a non-profit called First Draft, which was funded by former Google CEO Eric Schmidt. …She said their goal is to make you believe you are in the minority and make you afraid to raise objections to the narrative… But certainly, trust your cognitive dissonance. Talk to the people around you.”
