C H Spurgeon’s Morning and Evening Thoughts for February 28

The MORNING entry emphasizes that believers should solely rely on God for their needs, both earthly and spiritual, expecting His constant grace and future heavenly rewards. This includes anticipating angelic escorts at death and eternal glory in His presence. The EVENING entry uses the story of Elijah and the widow to illustrate God’s faithfulness in meeting daily needs. Just as her flour and oil never ran out, believers can trust that God’s grace will perpetually supply their necessities. This unwavering divine support surpasses any earthly resource, offering continuous comfort and encouragement through Christ.

The Faith of the Gospel – Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones

MLJ herein carefully explains how it is that those Christians who focus on feelings, experiences, fresh revelation… cannot put on the belt of truth because the truth that the apostle Paul referred to is something all together different. It is based upon objective truth statements. He explained such that all readers might understand. I was fascinated by how he explained the error of relying on experiences, the mystical type of experience one might feel via an encounter with God, for example; that such people will inevitably come to a place wherein they say such things as, “well that is your truth, but mine differs….” Such erroneous statements are commonly made in our 21st century culture. This is a pretty deep sermon; part of his process of teaching Christians about the belt of truth as described in the scriptures.

Stand Therefore – Martyn Lloyd-Jones

“There are no backdoors in the spiritual life. You never turn your back to the enemy. Stand.” ―Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones. …First of all, he says that Christians must not feel disappointed or unhappy because this causes a conflict. Christians should never feel sorry for themselves. The moment they do, they’ve already lost the battle. …realize the privilege of being in this great battle. Consider the captain and leader — Jesus Christ Himself. [MLJ said in his sermon, that we are fighting God’s battle… when we turn away, hell rejoices. An example is unfolding in our society presently: if you were part of ICE, then you would not be fighting your own battle to deport violent illegals, you are fighting for the President and our country. There are a lot of agents fighting the same fight with you…. There are parallels to the Christian life therein, the invisible church, all your born-againg brothers and sisters are in the same fray.]

What In The World Is The Ordo Amoris? – TruthScript

Last week, our newly minted Vice President, J.D. Vance, elucidated the principle of ordo amoris quite proficiently. The phrase in question is Latin for “ordering our loves,” or prioritizing them.  During an interview with Fox News, Vance said, “You love your family, and then you love your neighbor, and then you love your community, and then you love your fellow citizens, and then your own country, and then after that you can focus and prioritize the rest of the world.” To the average listener, this should come as no shock whatsoever….

God’s Battle Not Ours by Martyn Lloyd-Jones – EMPHASIS: typed 4-minute excerpt from the sermon regarding the Christian battle

This sermon is being reposted to publish a 4-minute typed quotation from the sermon that I found to be very significant. Most of the quoted portion was not in MLJTrust’s points. The quotation gives their points more meaning. The quotation is beneficial in that it provides the proper perspective on the Christian battle. In 20 years, I’ve never heard it put as MLJ put it; maybe you will find his words meaningful also.

Man’s Greatest Problem – Self – Martyn Lloyd-Jones

…Dr. Lloyd-Jones points out that the devil primarily uses pride to refocus people off the things of the Lord. One of his main methods in this is to take a person’s gift— whether it is singing, speech, knowledge, intellect or even conversion experience — and use it to make its possessor feel self-reliant and that they are above the spiritual state of other believers. …We should see ourselves as members of the body of Christ where every part is important. …We should care about what God thinks of us, not what people think. …Self in all its manifestations dishonors God, his grace and the gospel.

Ex-Elevation Member Exposes Steven Furtick – Pastor Daniel

In the video SHORT of this post, Pastor Daniel EXPLAINS 7 reasons why Steven Furtick (SF) is a false teacher / preacher: SF is a manipulator; focuses on emotion; practices narcigesis; presents a false God; distorts the gospel; presents a pantheistic god [not the biblical God]; and SF presents a false Jesus. Pastor Daniel also recommended biblical preachers in the narrative of his post.

Physical – Psychological – Spiritual – Martyn Lloyd-Jones

In this sermon on Ephesians 6.10–13 titled “Physical, Psychological, Spiritual,” Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones says that the Bible teaches that people are body, mind, and soul. They are more than the matter that they are made of, but the human body also affects its spirit. There is a great danger to turn all sin issues into problems of psychology. They say that a person’s problems are never a result of their sin but are a result of their circumstances. The Bible tells something different. [MLJ says much to help a Christian better assess the difficulties that he/she is encountering in terms of where they are coming from; and he also recommends and illustrates a biblical solution.]

Faith and Experience – Martyn Lloyd-Jones

There are two sermons in this post. The first is a 3 minute 20 second video by Dr John MacArthur to introduce the MLJ sermon. MacArthur’s brief video goes right to the heart of the matter. MLJ’s words confirm what JM said, but MLJ provided a more complete explanation of the relationship between feelings and experience, because he got into the various types of inappropriate feelings and motives behind those. I think MLJ’s sermon explains much 21st century “worship,” particularly in the charismatic churches, but in all churches.  MLJ’s sermon will enable you better assess the quality of your own worship.
