A senior White House official told reporters on Friday that G20 leaders would this weekend formalize their endorsement of a deal establishing a global minimum corporate tax rate of 15 percent. According to draft conclusions of the two-day G20 summit, held in Rome, Italy, the rules will enter into force in 2023, states the draft joint communique, which is expected to be formally adopted on Sunday, Reuters reported. … The Biden administration pushed the global minimum tax as a way to reduce international tax arbitrage by U.S. multinationals and, in part, to blunt the impact of Biden’s proposed domestic corporate tax hike. …The White House official cited an independent study that found that a 15 percent global minimum tax rate would lead to at least $60 billion in additional revenue per year just in the United States.

On Wednesday, New York Fire Department (FDNY) Commissioner Daniel Nigro said as many as 20 percent of the city’s firehouses could close on Monday and around 20 percent fewer ambulances would be on the roads due to staffing shortages, The Gothamist reported. …Andrew Ansbro, the President of the Uniformed Firefighters Association, told The Gothamist. “The basic services of the city are about to come to a near screeching halt.” …It comes as a recent Kaiser Family Foundation poll found that 37 percent of unvaccinated workers would quit their jobs if their employer required that they either take weekly COVID-19 tests or get vaccinated.

Maine is not offering a religious exemption to its COVID-19 mandate in hospital and nursing homes, which means if workers opt to not take the vaccine, they risk losing their jobs. The deadline for health care workers to be vaccinated in the state was by the start of October, but the state government said it would not enforce the mandate until Friday. “This case presents an important constitutional question, a serious error, and an irreparable injury. Where many other States have adopted religious exemptions, Maine has charted a different course,” Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote in a dissenting opinion (pdf), joined by Justice Clarence Thomas and Justice Samuel Alito. “There, health care workers who have served on the front line of a pandemic for the last 18 months are now being fired and their practices shuttered,” he added. “All for adhering to their constitutionally protected religious beliefs. Their plight is worthy of our attention.”

Over 11,000 Active-Duty Air Force Personnel Unvaccinated With Days Left Before Deadline – Epoch Times

The Air Force could lose thousands of troops in the coming weeks as over 11,000 active-duty personnel remain without a COVID-19 vaccine, just days before the deadline to get one. Some 96.4 percent of active-duty airmen were partially or fully vaccinated as of Oct. 25, the branch said in its latest vaccination update. That means approximately 11,462 airmen have not begun a vaccination program before the Nov. 2 deadline to become fully vaccinated.
