California used to take the following measures to render fire-season less damaging:
- Large scale logging, to thin forests
- Controlled burns to clear brush from fire areas
California’s current practices that contribute to more frequent and devastating fires:
- Logging and controlled burns are no longer carried out because progressives and environmentalists oppose such harming of nature
- Their opposition has increased the likelihood of fires becoming more devastating when they occur; also contributing to this threat of greater devastation, is the fact that developers are building closer to wilderness areas
- Governor Jerry Brown instituted a Green Energy Mandate (GEM), which required Pacific Energy and Gas (PGE) to focus on fulfilling the governor’s plan by developing wind and solar such that these forms of renewable energy would be viable by 2045
- PGE’s focus turned from maintenance of their infrastructure to the GEM; it is a public utility and had to respond to political directives
- PGE infrastructure is 70 – 100 years old
Typical causes of wildfires in CA:
- Lightening
- Camp fires
- Careless smoking
- Arson
- The greatest cause of wildfires is power lines; and CA’s antiquated power grid infrastructure is a growing cause of fires
- In 2018, half of CA’s wildfires were started by power lines or related electrical problems
- The oldest power lines are most likely to start wildfires
- The “Campfire” of 2018 destroyed 10 thousand homes in Paradise, CA; 85 people died; in 2017, the “Redwood” fire killed 9
Since wildfires are growing more frequent and more devastating, can’t PGE refocus their energies temporarily on rebuilding their infrastructure?
- PGE is in bankrupt court due to the many lawsuits they have incurred [apparently the progressives politicians that required them to focus on the GEM are not going to bail them out financially?]
- [CA itself is going broke because of progressive policies that are hostile to business and to law-abiding citizens; faith-based groups…]
- [Millions have fled CA in the past 5 years and that number is likely to grow because the progressives have locked down their cities and caused many small business owners to fail]
- Their green energy plans are turning CA into a third-world country
The progressive leftist Marxist utopian dream is apparently regressing because of their own policies, especially their “green” agenda.
