Social Justice and The Gospel: Dr. John MacArthur

Dr. MacArthur shows from scripture that the default position for mankind is to blame his sin on another. This is a basic tenet of social justice, that one is a victim because of the oppression of others.

He examined Ezekiel 18 texts in preaching a 4 part message on the gospel truth that God judges and punishes people for the sins they themselves commit. That it, a son is not punished for the sins of his father….

In the process of his sermons, he notes that social justice in the church is another social gospel and more than that, the movement emphasizes that individuals are not responsible for their victim status, but others are. They are therefore, unwilling to acknowledge or own their own sins.

MacArthur emphasizes that if a person does not own his sins and repent of them; that is, if he does not accept personal responsibility for his sins and repent of them to God, then he cannot be forgiven and his guilt remains. He will therefore, end up in hell because God judges people on their works.

People are saved by God’s mercy via the imputed righteousness of Christ; but they are judged on their works: their works indicate their true nature, whether they possess a regenerated heart or an unregenerate heart.

Below, are sermons 2 and 4 only. After listening to all four parts, I think that sermon 2 provides sufficient information that one might understand the points he makes in sermon 4, the conclusion sermon.
