HOW TO FIND A BIBLICAL CHURCH IN YOUR AREA OF THE WORLD

The website, sermonaudio.com has a “church finder” function. It is also a great place to hear a biblical sermon about any scripture you are studying. I will say more about that after providing instructions about using the church finder.

When you are at the home page of sermon audio, look at the left column which is titled “My Favorite Things,” then a box that says “My Church.6 spaces below that, click on Church Finder.

After that, you can narrow your search to a village, state, nation….

Below that, you may search the site for sermons, by Bible (book, verse); by category; by topic, by speaker and by date.

You might try searching for a verse that you want to understand better and listen to a sermon or more on that verse.

I have listened to hundreds of sermons on this site and haven’t heard an unbiblical one yet. Yes, some pastors have more insight than others…so it is good to listen to a few on a topic that you are studying. Or seek out your favorite pastors….

For example, when I was studying the beatitudes, when I entered Matthew 5:3, that search yielded 8 pages of sermons. I listened through 5 of those the next couple of years. Some, I saved to my computer for future reference.

You may freely download sermons. That process is easier if you are a member, $5.00 a month.

SERMON AUDIO IS LINKED TO THE FREE BIBLE SOFTWARE E-SWORD:

If you download the free software e-sword to your pc (iphones, the app store, $2.99 or so), you may use the “tool” drop menu to search sermon audio for the verse you are studying: click “tools” and sermon audio is listed there, click it and presto, all the sermons at their site on that verse are on your screen to be heard at the click of the mouse.

WHAT DOES E-SWORD PROVIDE?

The initial download comes with about a half-dozen versions of the Bible; about the same of Bible commentaries and Bible dictionaries.

There are other free downloads in each of those categories, also you might purchase additional resources of each.

For example, I purchased an NLT Bible and Wordstudy Bible dictionary. The free resources are great, so you might not want to purchase any other resource.

It also comes with Strong’s Hebrew and Greek Dictionaries, these are attached to one version of the KJV, the KJV+ (the + means plus Strongs) Bible. I will provide an example below to show how useful it is if you want to know the meaning of most Hebrew and Greek words:

In John 6:44 below, I could look up every word which is followed by a number. I chose only one which is in red: drawG1670:

John 6:44 No manG3762 canG1410 comeG2064 toG4314 me,G3165 exceptG3362 theG3588 FatherG3962 which hath sentG3992 meG3165 drawG1670 him:G846 andG2532 IG1473 will raise him upG450 G846 at theG3588 lastG2078 day.G2250

On my pc, when I rest the cursor on the strong’s number, in the above example, G1670, a box pops up with the Strong’s definition. It is that easy to use.

I added a newer dictionary to my e-Sword, called Wordstudy. It cost me $40. I will provide its definition below also.

Strong’s definition for “draw” as it is used in John 6:44:

ἑλκύω, ἕλκω
helkuō helkō
hel-koo’-o, hel’-ko
Probably akin to G138; to drag (literally or figuratively): – draw. Compare G1667.
Total KJV occurrences: 8

Wordstudy’s definition for the same word:

ἕλκύω
helkúō and ἕλκω
hélkō; fut. helkúsō, aor. heílkusa. To draw toward without necessarily the notion of force as in súrō (G4951). See Act_8:3; Act_14:19; Act_17:6; Rev_12:4. To drag, although it may be just implied (Act_16:19, of persons, to drag, force before magistrates; Act_21:30, “out of the temple”; Jas_2:6). Helkúō is used by Jesus of the drawing of souls unto Him (Joh_6:44; Joh_12:32, to draw or induce to come). It is the drawing to a certain point as in Joh_21:6, Joh_21:11 indicating the drawing of the net while súrō (Joh_21:8) is merely dragging. To draw a sword (Joh_18:10). See Sept.: 2Sa_22:17; Psa_10:9; Jer_38:13. Deriv.: exélkō (G1828), to draw away.
Ant.: apōthéomai (G683), to repel, push off; apostréphō (G654), to turn away from; apotinássō (G660), to brush or shake off; apotrépō (G665), to avoid, turn away; apotássomai (G657), to place in order away from oneself, forsake; exōthéō (G1856), to expel, drive out.

Thayer’s dictionary (also free with e-sword):

ἑλκύω / ἕλκω
helkuō / helkō
Thayer Definition:
1) to draw, drag off
2) metaphorically, to draw by inward power, lead, impel
Part of Speech: verb
A Related Word by Thayer’s/Strong’s Number: probably akin to G138
Citing in TDNT: 2:503, 227

If you are reading a Bible related book and want to look up scripture references, then using e-sword can save you much time and you could even save your verses to a word document and print it out if you are having a group study meeting or teaching on something.

When I quote scripture in this blog, I just copy it from e-sword and paste it in here.

If you are a student of the Bible, then you will much appreciate e-sword, and it is free.
