In the following account of the Welch revival of 1904, James Edwin Orr tells of how that revival began and how it spread to Canada and the US a year later.
If you want a sense for how the Holy Spirit works in true revivals, then you will gain from listening to Orr’s account. At one point, he compared Billy Graham’s revivals to the Welch revival just to show how much greater the work of the Spirit is in relation to planned revivals of man. …As Orr described how European societies were changed during the 18 months the Welch revival lasted, I thought of 2020 and how decadent the US has become. …However, inherent in Orr’s talk is the hope that the Welch revival began with the spiritual aspirations of one man – the Spirit used him to kick off a work of God. The Spirit of God can do that anytime He chooses.

In Sproul’s lecture, he began by describing the humanistic concept of free will; then he described the biblical view of free will via the writings of Jonathan Edwards; Martin Luther; and St. Augustine; finally, he provided his own brief description. The crux of his lecture was that motive (inclination, intention, desire) precedes choice; and to have the ability to choose is free will. He explained further, that mankind’s ability to choose was impacted by the fall; and he clarified how our choice-making has been impacted.

The excerpt by Piper is more about the battle of faith against unbelief; it provides insight into how unbelief derails a Christian; Piper also confronts a common social doctrine held by mainstream Christians; Ferguson’s 2 minute video provides the best definition of faith I have heard, it is an excerpt of a Ligonier Bible class. The 32 minute sermon from which the Piper excerpt was taken is also provided for those who would know more.
