The Wrath of God and The Hatred of Sin

The Wrath of God and The Hatred of Sin

Charles Leiter preached the message in this post, he was introduced by pastor Paul Washer. I think they met in Peru where Washer still heads Heart Cry missionary organization.

Leiter briefly defined and explained God’s wrath. His illustrations were very biblical, relevant and memorable.

The 21st century church takes a very unbiblical position regarding sin. This short message will reorient those who wish to be on the right path, the old path described in the Bible.

Paul Washer’s introduction was one minute in length and Lieter’s message, 9 minutes. I found this message on the YouTube site, diligentile. A link is provided to the following video at the end of the post, for those who would like to explore the site.

Sermon Highlights [bracketed statements and emboldening are mine]:

  • God’s wrath is unlike human anger in at least the following ways: not sinful; not temporary loss of self-control; not exasperation or frustration; and not a display of peevishness
  • His wrath is holy and good
  • His wrath is the revulsion of His holy nature against sin; it is His holy, white-hot hatred of all that is evil
  • People say they cannot believe in a wrathful God; they believe in a God of love
  • Consider: if God loves, then He must hate; for example, if one loves children, then he will hate child abuse; and his hatred will increase in instances of intense abuse
  • What kind of person could watch an atrocity unfold, and yawn, asking, for example, when supper will be served?
  • That statement and the following statement would characterize a God without wrath
  • When pastor Leither visited the German death camps where 10s of thousands of Jews were burned to death he learned that 14-16 thousand pounds of women’s hair was collected to make gunny sacks; those same people went home and listened to classical music [they were so desensitized to the horrors they were inflicting on others as they followed orders to destroy them]
  • A God without wrath would be someone who could tolerate wickedness and not hate it; such a God would not be worthy of worshiping
  • There is no outrage against sin in our day (examples provided)
  • God hates sin absolutely
  • If you love righteousness, then you will hate sin
  • THE FOLLOWING SCRIPTURES WERE BRIEFLY EXPLAINED BY PASTOR LEITER; specifically, in terms of God’s determination to punish every sin so that His justice will be satisfied
  • Hebrews 1:9 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions.”
  • Hebrews 12:28b; 29: let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, 29for our God is a consuming fire.
  • Isaiah 33:13b; 14: Hear, you who are far off, what I have done; and you who are near, acknowledge my might. 14The sinners in Zion are afraid; trembling has seized the godless: “Who among us can dwell with the consuming fire? Who among us can dwell with everlasting burnings?”
  • Romans 4:15 For the law brings wrath, but where there is no law there is no transgression.

The following narrative accompanied the above video at diligentile:

“Lake Road Chapel is the meeting place for a non-denominational body of Christians in Kirksville, Missouri. Its pastors are Charles Leiter and Richard Ochs. The church is made up of several families, as well as students from nearby Truman State University and A.T. Still University. Publications include the tracts Born-Againism and Ten Lies That College Students Hear, written by Richard Ochs, as well as the book, Justification and Regeneration, by Charles Leiter. Lake Road Chapel is located just outside the Kirksville city limits, at 22963 Potter Trail. The Christians who meet together at Lake Road Chapel believe the Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God, that Jesus Christ is its grand theme, and that salvation is wrought through the atoning blood of Christ alone by the convicting and regenerating power of the Holy Spirit. It is their desire to know the Lord Jesus deeper day by day and become more conformed to His perfect life so that lost souls may be saved and He may get the glory. “
