The Sinful Desire of Lust – Eros love – Mini-Series 3B

As a follow-up to the three-part mini-series that just concluded, I wanted to add a brief video that would seem to fall under the category of eros, as described in Dr. Spencer’s video of part 3. That video is also in this post, for those who did not yet listen to it. Additionally, another video by Dr. Spencer on Lascivious is included in this post. These 3 videos overlap somewhat, but explain different aspects of eros love / lust.

These three videos, together, provide biblical understanding about eros love. And I want to say that when the Holy Spirit is conforming born-again believers to the image of Christ, He undermines their trust in lies via illuminating the truth in His word.

Being conditioned in this culture has subjected us to lie upon lie. We are largely unaware of the lies we have been believing. One great value of abiding in God’s word, is that His truth exposes those lies. Please keep that in mind as you listen to the video teaching below.

The following video is about porn addiction; the speaker wrote a book which covers that topic and more. I found his words to be more piercing than other speakers on the topic, and thought it worthy of posting.

His succinct biblical explanation of lust provides a foundational understanding for addicts of all kinds; thus, it is worth spending 3 minutes to hear. (Link to other Lambert videos is at the end of this post.)

The following Highlights cover the first half of Lambert’s 3-minute video. His words are far more moving than the following points, however.

Please listen to the video if you are struggling with any sort of addiction, because his words provide foundational understanding for that struggle:

  • Only Jesus can set one free from porn
  • Why do people view porn?
  • Many wrong understandings about porn viewing are explained by Lambert
  • The Bible’s answer explained via scripture
  • Scripture pinpoints LUST as being the driving force behind porn
  • Lust is the desire for things that the Bible says we should not want
  • People view porn because they want to see images of other people that God has not given them
  • Lust always wants MORE
  • It is the greedy desire for something that doesn’t belong to you
  • One might lust for power, money, status… porn
  • Sexual lust is the greedy desire for a sexual encounter with someone other than your spouse
  • Understanding the above makes the story of Jesus explode with relevance
  • 2 Peter 1:4  by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire

Dr. Duane Spencer’s explanation of the three types of biblical love. Dr. Spencer said enough about eros, in the initial 4 moments of his presentation, to help listeners better understand Dr. Lambert’s words about lust.

The following two posts are being re-posted from this blog; click ‘continue reading‘  in those partial posts, to be taken to them:

Biblical love defined

The late Dr. Spencer’s explanation of Lascivious, which basically addresses eros that has progressed to a near soul-damning state, is quite stern and may be perceived as offensive by you.

His description of sexual sins and alcoholism are quite graphic.

21st century Americans will especially find them so because, for the past 60 years, there has been an effort to desensitize us to ‘sin’ as it is described and defined in the Bible; and to present sin as ‘liberty’ or increased freedom. That is how rebellion is spoken of in Psalm 2 for example.

That campaign, chiefly promoted by communists who devised social Marxism, included infusing our culture with pornographic ideas, promoting pornography and immorality in the name of freedom, and more.

If you want to learn more about that, Curtis Bowers, of Agenda Weekly, has some basic video teaching at his site which explains how communists began their agenda to bring down our culture, initially attacking Christian values and morals. See,  http://agendaweekly.com

One last thought:

Americans are raised up to covet and lust. Advertising is aimed at making us covet things and lust for them, so ‘the man’ can make his billions from us while we seek the objects he holds out to us as socially worthy of our time, resources, and our hearts.

In the great transition between being born again and arriving at a Christian worldview, one has to be taught by God the Holy Spirit that all those things we lust for are, as Solomon put it in Ecclesiastes, vanity. They are completely vain for providing us with the kind of meaning found in the Bible; which is the kind of meaning we seek deep down….

Those blessed by God, figure that out before their life ends.
