The Saints and The Mark of The Beast – Voddie Baucham |Who Will Take The Mark And Worship The Beast?

The saints and the mark of the beast. Who will take the mark and worship the beast? Voddie Baucham explains in details in this video what happens to the saints during the great tribulation. [Caption under video at John Henry’s YouTube site: The Gospel Of Christ.]

Sermon highlights [since I copied and uploaded this sermon in case it is blocked by YouTube, you must go to his site to access his other videos, via the link below]:

  • Revelation 13, the mark, 666, that points to his authority
  • All are required to be marked in the right hand and forehead who will buy and sell
  • War is being waged against the saints, the world is in chaos
  • Psalm 2 is used by Baucham to describe the worldly rebellion and chaos: Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? 2The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his Anointed, saying, 3“Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.” [Open your Bible for the rest]
  • Psalm 2 is what John has in mind as he sees the Lamb standing on Mt. Zion, amid the chaos of those accepting the mark of the beast and worshiping him
  • The question must come, what hope do the saints have?
  • Answer: I looked and saw the Lamb standing on Mt Zion, He is always standing there, as when one enters into prayer, He does not have to come anywhere, He just is
  • The Lamb is a member of the holy trinity; the false prophet is a member of the unholy trinity, attempting to mimic God, even to the idea of the symbolic number
  • The Lamb has inherent authority; while the beast and the false prophet are ‘granted’ authority; for example, in 13:5, ‘given a mouth,’ it was allowed to exercise authority for 42 months – limited authority for a limited time
  • In 13:7 ‘authority was given;’ in 13:7, ‘authority was given’
  • In 13:14 the second beast, ‘allowed’
  • [Several other examples indicating that, as Luther said, even the devil is God’s devil]
  • So, the first comfort that comes to the saints is that the unholy trinity is merely doint what it is allowed to do in the sovereignty of God
  • The mark of the beast is a product of fear and loss; and even though it seems counterintuitive not to receive the mark of the beast so that one can feed his family, yet the saints do not
  • The saints have the mark of the Lamb and of His Father
  • In chapter 6, the question is, ‘for the great day of the wrath is come and who can stand?
  • Chapter 7, the answer is, those who are sealed and who are kept by the Lamb
  • The question in chapter 13, ‘who can survive without taking the mark of the beast? NOT the saints who compromise, taking it and still worshiping God, because
  • Those who take the mark of the beast must worship him
  • Then how are God’s people going to survive?
  • He introduces the 144 thousand; He has a mark and a seal
  • This idea is not new in redemptive history, Ephesians 1:11ff: 11In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, 12so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. 13In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14who is the guaranteed of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory…
  • God kept the Israelites in the wilderness with mana; He can provide while the nations rage…
  • The number 666 is symbolic; it is short of 7; it is not 777
  • 7 is God’s number of completion
  • 42 months is half of 7 years, it falls short
  • God’s number is 12 x 12 x 1000 [explained]
  • The first 144 thousand is not the literal of the number of Jews converted after the rapture, but it represents the number of the totality of the people of God, those whom He desired to save
  • The presence of the Lamb indicates that the adversary is opposed
  • The authority of the Lamb indicates that the adversary is inferior
  • The worship of the Lamb indicates that the adversary is doomed
  • What is the beast after? Worship, complete worship as god, he is not going to get it
  • The worship of the Lamb originates in heaven, as does the new song His worshipers will sing
  • Verses 2 and 3, he heard a voice like the roar of many waters…as in Rev. 10:4, 8; 11:12; 14:13; 18:4
  • The Lamb’s worship is superior, it is authentic, from heaven
  • The beast’s worship is inferior, counterfeit, from earth
  • Only the redeem can sing the song
  • Only the totality of the people of God learn the song; only the redeemed of God can offer Him worship
  • Every knee will bow; He will get glory from His wrath against the wicked
