Hosea 10: 11-15 Sowing and Reaping – Pastor Richard Caldwell Jr

Sowing and reaping is a thoroughly biblical concept which I have often liked to forget about. However, to forget about it is to put your soul in grave danger. Pastor Caldwell presents the idea of sowing and reaping in a clear and memorable way as he preaches through Hosea 10: 11-15.

My last post was on Pastor Caldwell’s sermon on repentance; well, knowing the ideas in this post will likely motivate you to desire repentance, and help you move in that direction.

There are many ideas in this sermon to facilitate repentance.

Sermon Text:

Hosea 10:11  Ephraim was a trained calf that loved to thresh, and I spared her fair neck; but I will put Ephraim to the yoke; Judah must plow; Jacob must harrow for himself. 12  Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap steadfast love; break up your fallow ground, for it is the time to seek the LORD, that he may come and rain righteousness upon you. 13  You have plowed iniquity; you have reaped injustice; you have eaten the fruit of lies. Because you have trusted in your own way and in the multitude of your warriors,

Hosea 10:14  therefore the tumult of war shall arise among your people, and all your fortresses shall be destroyed, as Shalman destroyed Beth-arbel on the day of battle; mothers were dashed in pieces with their children. 15  Thus it shall be done to you, O Bethel, because of your great evil. At dawn the king of Israel shall be utterly cut off.

These two sermons from his series on Hosea were pastor Caldwell’s shortest sermons, but among the best in his series. I plan to post one or two more on chapters 4 and / or 5, wherein God spoke to the priests and leaders of the nation of severe coming judgment.

I am moved to post on them because the situation of Israel, which God addressed via Hosea has so many parallels with the state of our nation during the past several decades, and especially the past several years to date.

That is, we are a nation on the brink of destruction.

If you download the PDF to your computer, then you can open it and read along as you listen to the sermon. I like to do so and think that it enables me to more easily grasp the ideas of the spoken material.
