In the following 9 minute video, Dr. Jeff Mayfield continues to explain sermon 11 from Jonathan Edwards book of sermons, Charity and its Fruits. This is part two of his explanation and is on 1 Corinthians 13:7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Sermon highlights:
- The blessings of the gospel come with the promise of a crown and a cross
- A follower of Jesus must accept both
- One was never offered without the other
- Matthew 11:28, 29 speak of “rest” and “yoke;” a yoke must be borne
- Matthew 16:24, 25, Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
- Rev 14:4 It is these… who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These have been redeemed from mankind as firstfruits for God and the Lamb
- Jas 1:12 Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
- 2Ti 2:12 if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us;
2Ti 2:13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself. - Both the world and the Lord promise blessings to followers; which blessings would you have?
