Leonard Ravenhill – Will You Stay on the Cross? (Sermon Jam)

The following 14 minute Leonard Ravenhill sermon excerpt is about the true Christian life wherein one bears his cross, separates from the world, denies himself and follows Christ. A picture of the true Christian life is contrasted with the counterfeit Christian life which most are living. Ravenhill illustrated the process of the true Christian life by talking about wheat being planted, bearing fruit, and harvested. He talked about separation in a very memorable way; his illustrations enable one to see the pain of living that kind of live, that pain would likely only be experienced during the transition from leading a worldly life to leading a godly life and dying to self….

A Picture Of Repentance

The sermon excerpt in this post paints a picture of repentance that includes examining specific sins; defining and illustrating repentance; discussing forgiveness and the consequences of sin. As I was listening to the sermon, I realized that he described repentance more fully than I have heard it described in most instances.  If you are not sure you are repenting correctly; this message will benefit you. This post covers very foundational aspects of the Christian faith, things that everyone must comprehend and apply. If you know someone who thinks they are too sinful to be a Christian, then this message will be of great use to you, as you share with them the hope of forgiveness.

David: Sin and Repentance (4 0f 4) – Kenneth Stewart Sermon

David wanted his heart renewed because he did not like how his sin had changed him; that is, sin was an expression of his character, BUT it also made his heart worse – it derives from what a person is, yet it also makes one worse. We are not in a static state; we are deteriorating as a person if we are not going forward and improving; that is, in your sanctification, unless you are working to go forward, then you are backsliding; one cannot stand still in the Christian race. David knew that he had harmed his soul and he wanted God to make him the kind of person he was before, a consistent, god-fearing person. Are you a Christian who no longer has zeal, earnestness, passion for Christ? Are you praying that God would give that to you again?

Ezekiel 36:31 Then you will remember your evil ways, and your deeds…and you will loathe yourselves for your iniquities….

In the sermon excerpt, by Voddie Baucham, that I posted yesterday, he stated that Christians ought to loathe themselves for their sins. I remembered the statement from Ezekiel; but am thinking that contemporary Christians may question the sternness of such repentance. This post aims to show that the thoughts of Ezekiel 36:31 are also New Testament theology. The following cross references are from Treasury of Scripture Knowledge at Bible Hub; also there are several sermons on Ezekiel 36:31

This Is Why Most People Are Going To Hell – Voddie Baucham

In the 12 minute sermon excerpt of this post Dr. Voddie Baucham uses scripture to explain why most people are going to hell; that includes, most Christians also. He explains sin, repentance, faith in terms of how it looks in a person’s real-life experience. He talks briefly about the preachers who lead people onto the broad way of destruction and the kinds of beliefs that keep one there and he contrasts those beliefs with biblical truth

The Consciousness of Sin in the works of J. Gresham Machen

J. Gresham Machen (1881–1937), a leading Reformed theologian, argued in many of his works that the “consciousness of sin” was foundational to Christianity. This video explores why Machen considered it so important. Works quoted: Christianity and Liberalism (1923) What Is Faith? (1925) The Christian View of Man (1937) [A 13 minute video preceded by bulleted highlight points]

The Adoption of the Believer, by Dr. John MacArthur

Salvation is by faith apart from works. Those who have come to Christ by faith are no longer slaves, but adopted sons of God, heirs …All religions and false Christian sects, teach that people are delivered from judgment, saved, by their works: morality [kindness, church attendance, tithing, penance, helping the poor…] …THAT IS SATAN’S BIG LIE; every society since the fall has believed it [and it is currently believed in the western world] …The gospel of faith alone in Christ had been buried by the Roman Catholic Church for 1000 years or so before the protestant reformation [view the movie Luther for a quick study on the reformation and for a glimpse of RCC heresy]

Fighting the Battle of Faith

This post aims to define faith (via excerpts from Dr. J. Piper; and Dr. S. Ferguson). The excerpt by Piper is more about the battle of faith against unbelief; it provides insight into how unbelief derails a Christian; Piper also confronts a common social doctrine held by mainstream Christians; Ferguson’s 2 minute video provides the best definition of faith I have heard, it is an excerpt of a Ligonier Bible class. The 32 minute sermon from which the Piper excerpt was taken is also provided for those who would know more.

What is a Christian?

Pastor Ramsey asked the question, What does it mean to be a Christian? He answered that question with a definition that included explaining our union with Christ and how that occurs. He closed by giving several practical benefits of our union with Christ, that all born-again Christians possess. [I provided written sermon points for his mp4 sermon, and I gave more than highlights because this is such an important, foundational sermon.]
This 28 minute sermon will help you understand the blessings you possess because you are a Christian.
