The Passover [a ‘type’ of the New Covenant in Christ’s Blood] – R C Sproul [Part 3]

This post contains a 24-minute teaching video by R C Sproul described as follows, by Ligonier Ministries: The Passover is a day of central importance in Israel’s history. To bring about the redemption of His people from slavery in Egypt, God provided them a means of escaping the wrath He would pour out on the land. The blood of a lamb was to cover the doorposts of Israel’s dwellings, displaying God’s merciful protection of His people from the judgment to come. In this message, R.C. Sproul discusses the significance of the Passover and how it foreshadows the redemption accomplished by Jesus, the Lamb of God. [There are highlight points following the video]

Contemplative Prayer – Mysticism – by GoodFight Ministries

The 7-minute video of this post opens by mentioning Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who brought transcendental (TM) meditation to the west, via the influence of the Beach Boys and the Beatles. Pastor Joe Schimmel, who created the video, then moves to the topic of church leaders who are encouraging TM: Rick Warren and Rob Bell, two of many. Then Pastor Joe S. discussed mantras: their unbiblical nature, even if these are words from the Bible. Lastly, true biblical meditation was succinctly explained…. [Even though this video is a decade old, Hindu meditation and Hindu yoga are still a problem in the church, find out how that is so]

Dying We Live – Pastor James Boice

In this sermon, Dr. Boice delves into the paradox that as a Christian, we must die in order to live. His sermon text was Romans 12:1  I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.  [Dr. James Boice was a contemporary and a friend of R C Sproul; they were born in the late 1930’s; Boice died of cancer in 2000, 17 years before Sproul.]

Give Sin a Name: Things Unseen with Sinclair B Ferguson

Pastor Sinclair Ferguson began a new podcast titled, Things Unseen in 2024. Each episode is 4-6 minutes in length. This post contains the episode of 1-19-24 and a link to the other 14 messages he has thus far aired. I got my post of yesterday, John Newton’s hymn, via a reference he made to search the hymn. Ferguson’s most recent several podcasts have been about character types of Christians that Newton identified in a little book he wrote. Each character flaw will remind you of Christians you are in the midst of, perhaps, yourself. Ferguson’s purpose seems to help Christians identify their own flaws for future prayer….

A Call To Scripture Memory – Susan Heck

I had never heard of Susan Heck until last week when I found a Justin Peters’ interview wherein he interviewed her about the teachings of Beth Moore. I agreed with Susan Hecks critique of Beth Moore; and gathered, from listening to Justin’s interview, that she is a sound teacher of the Bible. When Justin Peters introduced Susan Heck, he noted that during her past 30 years of ministering the Bible to Women, she has memorized the entire New Testament. I was greatly impressed and wanted to hear what she had to say about her process. Hence, this post. In the following video, Susan Heck, answers 5 questions, the last of which is ‘how to’ memorize scripture. 1) Who should memorize scripture? Is it necessary for everyone? 2) Why should we memorize scripture? 12 reasons provided from the Bible 3) What scripture should we memorize? 4) When should we memorize scripture? 5) How do we memorize scripture?
