What I found so great about it:
- The family was experiencing grief issues because one person had died in the recent past and another had a terminal diagnosis
- The writers did a great job portraying typical family conflicts. During the course of the movie, these tensions came out via sniping, sarcasm…and these built to a point of causing a crisis that was resolved in a godly manner (don’t quit watching because the movie appears to not look like a good Christmas movie, I did find it to be the most realistic, and Spirit-filled Christmas movie I have ever seen, but it starts out looking a bit generic)
- What I found realistic about these tensions is that the characters were discussing faith and Christ and struggles they had in the recent past and inevitably they were able to deal with the current tensions in a godly manner – honestly admitting wronging to others (not at first, but in time), showing a willingness to rely on Christ’s Spirit to get through the kinds of minor and major issues that commonly arise in families and family gatherings. I haven’t forgotten it was only a movie, but if you watch it, you’ll be surprised at how well the writers typified family squabbles and you will also find, if you’re trying to life a godly life, that they did a great job of modeling biblical responses – there was some messiness, but they gave the Christian audience a great mark to strive for regarding relationship struggles
- There were a few discussions wherein scripture was quoted and Christian struggles with doubt, faith, trust, personal weaknesses…were shared
- There was a church service with great singing
- There was a group of Christmas carolers
- There was a great telling of the Nativity
- There was hope because of Christ, not some elusive “magic” or Santa, or any of the typical Pagan secular renderings of Christmas
- You will have to put up with commercials, but it is a 2020 movie, and believe me, I have watched a lot of Hallmark Christmas movies in the past 5+ years, as well as Non-Hallmark, none can touch it; it put Christ at the center, and portrayed family interactions very realistically
- There was a touch of the supernatural, but if you read the Bible, you know that it is filled with the supernatural
- I viewed the movie for the second time tonight and it was even more enjoyable
May God bless you with a Christ-filled Christmas
