Another Gospel: Dr. John Piper provides a thoughtful definition

In the following 10 minute video, Dr. John Piper uses scripture to explain the types of unbiblical preaching which are part of the current church.

He speaks about a continuum of false preaching, ranging from the “radical” prosperity message that states that “God wants you rich,” and such unbiblical statements; to those “prosperity lite” messages wherein converts are told that God wants them happy, comfortable….

The latter type would include the “seeker friendly,” the “easy believism” type of churches.

So, churches on the “radical” end of the continuum are much easier for a professing Christian, who is biblically literate to identify; but churches of the “lite” end have more subtle forms of unbiblical doctrine, and require greater scriptural understanding to identify. That is, if you are not biblically literate, then you are at the mercy of others to help you discern true from false preaching.

Conclusions:

Your opinions about your pastor, church…should not be the criteria by which you determine whether you are in a biblical church; but whether your pastor faithfully preaches the whole counsel of God, from scripture must be the criteria. Otherwise, your soul is in danger.

How can you know whether your pastor is faithful to scripture unless you are very familiar with the Bible?
