I want to introduce this teaching with some thoughts by Martyn Lloyd-Jones. In numerous of his sermons about the Great Doctrines of the Church series, I’ve often heard him encourage Christians to be aware and to familiarize themselves with trendy teachings that are floating around in the church at any given time. Those teachings need to be compared with scripture.
To provide them with an example, he carefully compared such a teaching in the last post I published. The post was on Daniel 9 and the Secret Rapture. He contrasted a very popular teaching that has been floating around in the church since 1830; he demonstrated, using scripture that it is a false teaching that is widely accepted.
What I just said, applies to Roman Catholic teachings that do not come from the scriptures, and that body of dogmas is quite huge.
Mike Gendron is always demonstrating just how it is that the teachings of the RCC are mostly not from the Bible. If you persist in submitting to such teachings, then your soul is in grave danger.
If you disagree, please read through scripture using a reputable study Bible, such as the Reformation Study Bible; but even NLT S-B; or NIV S-B a pre 2000 version. Refer to what has been taught by the reformers….
A Bible that has been adapted to cultural trends, will be unreliable, as the truth of God is unchanging. It is as true for you as it was for the 1st century believer.
Do what you can to gain a knowledge of the Bible. If you do, then seeing such doctrinal errors will come easily.
You may be given understanding that the Roman Catholic Church has added many dogmas to that of the Bible.
Each believer is responsible to do such things. This blog is full of examples of false teachers / preachers. If you rely upon one of them because you are not willing to expend the energy to look for truth in scripture, then you will suffer….
So, begin by hearing what Gendron has to say and check scriptures to see if he is speaking truth, as the Bereans did in Acts 17.
What is the One True Church? |
One of the most powerful tools the god of this world uses to blind people from the light of the Gospel and the glory of Christ is religious indoctrination (2 Cor. 4:4). This is why there is such a stubborn resistance to the Gospel by Roman Catholics. They have been indoctrinated to believe that their church is the one and only true church. It teaches that whoever refuses to enter or remain in the Catholic Church cannot be saved (Catechism, para. 846). The Roman Catholic Church Is Not the True Church The 21st century Roman Catholic Church does not bear any resemblance to the 1st century church portrayed in the New Testament. Nowhere in the Book of Acts do we see priests continuing the work of Christ’s redemption on an altar during the sacrifice of the Mass. We do not find anyone praying for the dead, or venerating Mary and the saints, or transubstantiating wafers into the body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus. Nor can we find any mention of indulgences, purgatory, infallible popes, or a sacerdotal priesthood. There is an indisputable explanation for this. Rather than obeying the exhortation of Jude to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints, the Catholic Church departed from the apostolic faith to follow deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons (Jude 3; 1 Tim. 4:1). Its apostasy was fully documented at the 16th century Council of Trent when it issued numerous anathemas against anyone who did not believe its “infallible” dogmas. The Professing Church Is Not the True Church Both believers and unbelievers are included in the professing church. Tragically, there are many who “profess” Christ but do not “possess” Christ. They are religious, but have no relationship with Christ. They have a zeal for God but it is not based on Biblical knowledge. Their names are on church rolls, but not in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Jesus calls them “tares” who have been sown by the devil among the “wheat” (Mat. 13:24-30, 36-43). Some of them even call Jesus “Lord” and boast in what they are doing for salvation. These tares may one day hear the most terrifying words they could ever hear when Jesus declares, “I never knew you, depart from Me” (Mat. 7:23). The Body of Christ Is the One True Church The true church is the body of Christ and the family of God (Eph. 4:12; 1 Cor. 12:27). It is composed of all believers in the Lord Jesus who have been born again of God (John 1:12-13). It has only one Head, one Shepherd and one builder – the Lord Jesus Christ. It is the only church that Jesus purchased with His own blood (Acts 20:28). He adds to His church when a man is saved by believing His Gospel (Acts 2:47). Like the penitent thief on the cross, he may not have the opportunity to be baptized in water, but he has something far better, the baptism of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 12:13). Each member is being conformed to the image of Christ (Rom. 8:29). The One True Church Is Apostolic This is the only church which is truly apostolic because it is built upon the one foundation of the apostles and prophets with Christ Jesus Himself being the cornerstone (Eph. 2:20). It upholds the doctrines they preached and contends for the faith of the apostles (Jude 3). It is the church of the living God that is the pillar and support of the truth (1 Tim. 3:15). This is the “holy catholic (universal) church” of the Apostles’ Creed, with members in every part of the world where the Gospel is believed. This church is the chosen race, the purchased possession, the holy nation, the royal priesthood whose names are written in heaven (1 Pet. 2:9; Heb. 12:23). They are not citizens of this world but are only passing through on their way home to heaven. They labor in the fields white for harvest by proclaiming the voice of the Good Shepherd so His lost sheep will hear and follow Him (John 10:16). This is the church that is diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit because they are all taught by one Spirit (Eph. 4:3). The True Church Is Protected by the Power of God This is the church to which the Lord Jesus promises “the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” and to which He says, “I am with you always, even unto the end of the world” (Matt. 16:18, 28:20). This is the only church which is certain to endure unto the end. No member will ever perish (John 10:28). Once enrolled in this church, sinners are safe for all eternity; they can never be cast away (John 6:37). The continual intercession of the Good Shepherd, coupled with the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit protects, every member (Heb. 7:25). This is the church which shall be truly glorious at the end, without spot or wrinkle, holy and blameless (Eph. 5:27). Pray for Those Outside the One True Church If anyone does not belong to the one true church at the end of their days, it will have been better if they had never been born. It is my prayer and heart’s desire that Catholics and false converts who read this article will recognize they are on the wide road that leads to destruction. Let us plead with them to become a member of the true church by entering through the narrow gate that leads to eternal life (Mat. 7:13-14). |

David Wheaton Interviews Mike Gendron on Why the Reformation Was Necessary |
It was ignorance of Scripture that made the Reformation necessary, the recovery of Scripture that made the Reformation possible and the power of the Scripture that gave the Reformation its enduring impact. Listen to the interview here. |

Letters to Equip and Encourage the Saints |
Sir, I listened to your interview with Allie Beth Stuckey and it compelled me to share with you my disgust at your life choice to draw believers away from Catholicism. I find the way you use straw man arguments against the Church and cherry-picked verses taken out of proper context in order to promulgate false teaching to be reprehensible. It is a pity you didn’t have better counsel when you first doubted. Stop wounding the body of Christ by pulling Catholics away from their faith. Convincing Catholics who know and love Christ to leave their faith is contemptible. M.B., Maryland M.B., I could respond with Scriptures that would reprove the false and fatal gospel that your religion teaches but you would again accuse me of cherry-picking verses. I urge you to prove yourself to be a disciple of Christ by abiding in His Word so that you will know the truth that can set you free from the bondage of religious deception (John 8:31-32). Mike, I have seen the opposition you face from Catholics and I know that you both “count it all joy” (James 1:2-4). You are such a wonderful blessing to help me learn more about the Catholic Church so I can share the Gospel with my family and others. I see how the Lord is blessing you both in seeing so many Catholics get saved because of your ministry. Praise the Lord! In your interview with Allie Beth Stuckey, she mentioned the aesthetic beauty within the Catholic Church. Could this be a reference to Revelation 17:4-7? I am praying for your protection because of the hostility which seems to be rapidly growing in this world. May the Lord bless you and keep you safe in His loving hands. V.D., Fowler, MI Dear V., Thank you for your kind words and prayers! Yes, many bible scholars see the Roman Catholic Church in Revelation, chapter 17. The woman in this chapter is described as a harlot being “dressed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication.” Purple and scarlet are the colors of the vestments Catholic bishops and cardinals wear and the golden cup is the chalice the priest uses to “miraculously” turn wine into the blood of Christ. This is a detestable abomination of the worst kind. For a deeper study, you can order my DVD Mystery Spiritual Babylon. |

Vatican Approves Devotion at Apparition Site |
Devotions at a Marian shrine in Spain that communicate Mary’s close and affectionate presence were approved by Pope Francis. The devotions began after the Second World War, when two young girls had spiritual experiences in which they said they encountered Mary where the shrine now stands. Read more. |
From this blog:
The conversion testimonies of two former Roman Catholics have at least one thing in common, they returned to the study of scripture. A read through the New Testament would likely also make the significance of their discoveries clear to you.
