THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD AND OF OURSELVES MUTUALLY CONNECTED: JOHN CALVIN’S INSTITUTES: BOOK 1; CHAPTER 1

In the following 9 minute Librivox recording of chapter 1 of Calvin’s Institutes, the connection between the knowledge of God and knowledge of self is discussed.

In my words, Calvin seems to be saying that one cannot know himself or God unless he is abiding in God’s appointed means of grace, in particular the word and prayer.

Calvin wrote the Institutes of the Christian Religion early in his walk with the Lord, and revised it many times to perfect it according to the biblical understanding given him by the Lord as he matured in his faith.

My purpose in posting such videos is to provide a sampling of men Christ gave to his church to edify it. Calvin lived from 1509 – 1564.
