[The following narrative describes video one below. After creating this post, I went to Ligonier Ministries YouTube site and listened to Things Unseen for Monday and Tuesday. Those lead up to the discussion of video 1 below, the Wednesday podcast. Those two videos create a fuller picture of the contents of video 1. I certainly recommend subscribing to Ligonier Ministries YouTube site, the content is biblical and spiritual enriching.

The video of this post is by Pastor Sinclair Ferguson. In 5 minutes, he explained the unity of the Old and New Testaments by means of speaking of the covenants God made with men.
In the process, he explained that since the fall, salvation has only been by grace. In other words, people who say, “Old Testament salvation is by law and the New Testament salvation is by grace,” seriously err.
I thought of the following as I listened to him speak.
This post is another example of a solid, biblical preacher saying that salvation has always been by grace and that the Old and New Testaments are intimately related because the plan of redemption, by covenants, runs across the entire Bible.
The covenant with Abraham is spoken of in Genesis 15 (but also chapters 12, 17, and 22) and described by the apostle Paul as the foundational covenant of New Testament saints – in Romans 4; and in Galatians.
Paul went on to say that those who presently believe “by faith” are the children of Abraham. In that way, he also said that in Gen 15, particularly, verse 6, Abraham believed by faith and was “counted as righteous” by God: in other words, Abraham was justified by faith. Furthermore, Paul therein indicated that the church began in Genesis, not in the New Testament.
In this blog, in the category of Covenant Theology the same is said by various preachers.

We’re bound to misunderstand the law that God delivered to His people at Mount Sinai if we forget His deliverance of Israel from slavery. Today, Sinclair Ferguson reminds us that God’s law is given in a context of grace. Hear more from Things Unseen with Sinclair B. Ferguson.
