Texas and Arizona Send Dozens of Busses of Migrants to Washington, D.C

Thousands of migrants were transported to the nation’s capital.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Republican governors of Texas and Arizona have offered 79 state-provided busses to recently-released migrants that will take them to Washington D.C.
  • Over 2,500 migrants released from Border Patrol custody after illegally migrating have taken free bus rides to the nation’s capital.
  • The busses have departed from border towns across Texas and Arizona earlier as governors of both states attempt to stem the flow of illegal migrants into their state
  • “These people are wanting to go somewhere else. They’re not wanting to stay in Arizona,” said Morgan Carr, spokeswoman for Gov. Doug Ducey (R-AZ). “From what we’re seeing, they’re all primarily [headed to] the East Coast.”
EARLIER BUS RIDES TO DC:
  • More than 2,000 migrants have taken the free bus trip from Texas to Washington since Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) began the operation in mid-April.
  • Arizona began bussing its uninvited migrants to the nation’s capital in mid-May and has delivered about 523 people to the East Coast since that time.
BACKGROUND:
  • The bussing program is not mandatory, and the vast majority of the migrants are not from our neighbors, Mexico.
  • About 69% of migrants headed to the nation’s capital were from Colombia and another 15% were Peruvians and at least eight Russian citizens departed for Washington D.C. from Arizona on Tuesday.
