Knowing your calling: some thoughts from Francis Chan

The following 7 minute video says a lot to clarify that question so many have about their calling from God.

I had an experience like the one Chan shared when I watched the movie Machine Gun Preacher, Wikipedia’s account follows:

Machine Gun Preacher is a 2011 biographical action film about Sam Childers, a former gang biker turned preacher and defender of South Sudanese orphans. The movie was based on Childers’ book Another Man’s War. It was written by Jason Keller, directed by Marc Forster, and stars Gerard Butler, Michelle Monaghan and Michael Shannon.Wikipedia

This movie is very violent, and is probably rated “R” but would be good for any adult Christian to view. It gave me an interest in contributing more money to missions, including Sam’s work; also, I experienced that sense of guilt because of the extravagances of my own life, like Chan spoke about in the above video.

Scripture references by Chan:

1Jn 3:16 We know what real love is because Jesus gave up His life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.
1Jn 3:17 If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person?
1Jn 3:18 Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.

Another oft quoted reference:

Jas 1:27 Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.

The following 5 minute video shows the 20 richest pastors in the world. They do not hold to the same views as Francis Chan:

Closing comments:

**I don’t know where Chan was preaching, but his mentioning of Bill Hybels troubled me. Hybels was the leader of the Willow Creek Church conglomeration that propounded that market-driven false gospel to so many thousands. He is no one to reference or to follow. Perhaps he was born-again when that system crumbled?

**Most of the richest pastors are prosperity gospel preachers; that says much about the unbiblical nature of that movement.

STUDY RECOMMENDATIONS:

***See, Archives, November 2019: Walking with God, Meditation: Food for Thought…. to learn about all the homeless men, women and children in the USA, eating from trash bins…and about the 250 thousand new millionaires in the USA in 2018.

So homelessness and starvation are also problems in the USA.
